Tebo

Tebo is an ash-coloured warthog found in Congo and Zaire whose invisibility makes it both difficult to catch and very dangerous. Its hide is highly prized by wizards for protective shields and clothing, making the creature’s threat and its practical value inseparable in its brief account in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Appearance and Habitat

The Tebo is described as a warthog, distinguished by its ash-coloured appearance. Its stated range is Congo and Zaire; the account supplies no further details about its behaviour, diet, or habitat within those regions.

Invisibility and Danger

The Tebo can become invisible. This ability makes it difficult not only to catch but also to evade, a combination that marks it as dangerous rather than merely elusive. The description gives no account of a particular encounter, so the threat rests on the practical problem its invisibility creates for anyone trying to locate or avoid it.

Hide and Use

Despite the danger involved in dealing with the creature, Tebo hide is highly prized by wizards. It is used for protective shields and clothing, linking the animal’s hazardous presence to objects intended to protect people from danger. The account does not specify how the hide is obtained or what properties make it suitable for these uses beyond its value to wizards.
